Delhi Police registers case for Indian High Commission protest in London

The Delhi Police on Friday registered a case in connection with the March 19 protest outside the Indian High Commission in London.

“A case has been registered under relevant sections of IPC, UAPA and PDPP. A case was registered after the Ministry of Home Affairs asked the Delhi Police to take appropriate legal action,” the Delhi Police said in a statement. "The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has started an investigation into the incident as it involves the illegal activities of some Indian nationals abroad," he added.

The tricolor flying atop the Indian High Commission in London was caught on Sunday by a group of protesters waving Khalistani separatist flags and chanting pro-Khalistan slogans, leading to arrests related to the violent disturbance. Images of broken windows and men climbing India House circulated on social media, and videos from the scene show an Indian official grabbing a flag from a protester through a first-floor window of the mission, while the protester is seen hanging from a ledge. and waving the Khalistan flag before being taken away.

Following the incident, India registered its strong protest with the British government regarding the security of its diplomatic mission, questioning the lack of adequate security at the premises. “An explanation was demanded for the complete absence of British security which allowed these elements to enter the premises of the High Commission. In this regard, she was reminded of the UK Government's fundamental obligations under the Vienna Convention,” the MEA said in a statement.

“India finds the UK government's indifference to the security of India's diplomatic premises and personnel in the UK unacceptable. It is expected that the UK Government will take immediate action to identify, arrest and prosecute each of those involved in today's incident and will implement strict measures to prevent such incidents from happening again," the agency said.
